At the meeting of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council on the 6th of July 2015, the Council awarded a total of €46,020 to successful applicants under the DLR Ireland 2016 Grant Scheme, funding 18 different commemorative projects and events across the County that will mark the centenary of the 1916 Rising.

The DLR Ireland 2016 programme of events is being developed by the Council, in association with Ireland 2016 and the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht for ‘Ireland 2016’, a national initiative to develop, coordinate and deliver a programme for the 2016 centenary year with local, national, and international events, based on five intersecting themes, drawing inspiration from the ideals of 1916, the Proclamation, and the events of that time.  It is a call to action to REMEMBER the events of 1916, REFLECT on the last 100 years, and RE-IMAGINE Ireland’s future.

The funding has been made available for local groups, organisations and other interested parties to play their part by developing a project, or projects, to mark this important event.

Overview

2016 marks the Centenary of the 1916 Rising and to assist the citizens of the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown to engage with this landmark occasion Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is delighted to announce a Grants Programme for its ‘dlr  Ireland 2016’ celebrations.

The Grants programme will be entirely focused on projects, activities and events that will take place in the County before October 31, 2016.  The Council is currently producing a list of its own events but we hope that a great deal of the energy for the celebrations will come from the wider community. It is intended that these grants will allow for the broadest possible participation in the ‘dlr Ireland 2016 Programme’.  These grants are open to individuals, societies and organizations to apply for.

The closing date is May 29, 2015 and the grant application form can be downloaded below.

To learn more about the grants and the wider Ireland 2016 programme there will be two public consultation evenings taking place on May 13 at 7.30 in the dlr LexIcon, Dún Laoghaire and on May 14 at 7.30 at Marlay House, Marlay Park, Dublin 14.  These will be ideal opportunities to discuss the grants and proposals as well as exchange ideas.

Why We Are Consulting

We appreciate that not everyone is in a position to organise an event so we are running this consultaiton to allow residents of the County to suggest particular themes or events that they feel should be celebrated in the dlr progamme of events.

All suggestions made will be considered by a committee established by Dún Laoghiare-Rathdown County Council, which consists of Elected Members and Staff, and will be incldued in the programme of events where possbile.
