Arts: Artists’ Workspace Needs
Overview
dlr Arts Office is eager to learn more about local artists’ need for workspace. Currently the Council supports workspaces in Dún Laoghaire Baths, Marlay Craft Courtyard, Rathfarnham and through Mart Studios at The Grainstore, Cabinteely. We also provide workspaces through residency programmes in music, literature, and dance.
We are aware, from the very regular queries we receive, recent consultation feedback and the number of applicants for the opportunities in Dún Laoghaire Baths last year, that there is significant need for additional workspace, from artists working in all artforms and throughout the County. We are also aware that most of our current purpose-built workspace supports visual artists.
This Survey will take 10-20 minutes to complete. The information is collected anonymously; individual responses will not be published. Collective data will be used by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and may be shared with Government, development, and funding agencies.
Why your views matter
This needs survey will inform potential future workspace developments led by the Council and help us advocate for national support for artist workspaces using current data and insights from local artists. Through your replies we hope to better understand local provision, both public and private, available to each art form and the greatest need for new workspace.
We strongly encourage all professional artists practicing in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown to contribute to this survey and we greatly appreciate your time.
