Stillorgan Village Urban Framework Plan – Phase 2

Overview

Public Realm and Roadway Improvement Works from west of the Millhouse car park to the Kilmacud Crokes GAA club access road

Under Phase 1 of the Stillorgan Village Urban Framework Plan, Dun Laoghaire - Rathdown County Council undertook works to upgrade the section of Lower Kilmacud Road from the junction with South Avenue to just west of the access road into the Millhouse car park. Over the coming months it is proposed to continue these works as far as the access road to Kilmacud Crokes GAA club.

The extent of works to be undertaken as part of this phase is detailed on the accompanying drawing.

Why your views matter

The main features of this phase are:

• To improve the appearance of the area through the renewal of existing pavements, upgrading street furniture (new benches, public lighting, signs etc) and enhancement of existing features.
• Construct a pocket park in the green space fronting the entrance to Beaufield Park and introduce trees, plants and shrubs where possible to soften the visual surroundings and provide a more sensory environment
• Maximise the available Public Realm space by increasing planted areas and introducing more trees to create a tree lined avenue on the approach to Stillorgan village.
• Construct cycle tracks to promote sustainable transport in the area and reduce the volume of cars.
• Construct a new footpath alongside the Millhouse car park and upgrade the existing pedestrian crossing beside Allen Park Road to improve connectivity
• Relocate ESB poles from the centre of the footpath to the back. Overhead cables will be undergrounded where possible to improve the overall look of the area.
   
  As a result of this scheme it is hoped to increase the connectivity and look of the area while also improving the performance of the road network for local residents and road users.
   
   Traffic management will be in place for the duration of the works but some disruption will occur. Local arrangements will be put in place with home owners and businesses to ensure access to properties during the works.
