Overview

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, in conjunction with the National Transport Authority, is carrying out walking and cycling improvements on Roebuck Road. The improvements will take place from the junction of Goatstown Road and Roebuck Road to the cycle route approaching UCD, north of the Bird Avenue junction.

The Council’s Traffic & Road Safety Section is undertaking a Non-Statutory Public Consultation for the above Scheme and welcomes all submissions and observations on the scheme as proposed. The scheme is being prepared in accordance with Section 38 of the Road Traffic Act 1994.

Scheme Details

In line with the requirements of the National Cycle Manual (NCM) and the Design Manual for Urban Roads and Streets (DMURS), the main works to be carried out as part of the proposed scheme include the following:

  • The provision of raised and adjacent cycle tracks on both sides of Roebuck Road, in accordance with the National Cycle Manual. The development of segregation and physical protection will provide a safer environment for cyclists.
  • Tightened corner radii at junctions, side roads and left turn slips.
  • Pedestrian refuge islands removed in accordance with DMURS.
  • Improved pedestrian and cycle facilities near Gledswood Drive and Bird Avenue.
  • Increased area available for landscaping and retention of existing trees where possible.
  • The existing on-street car parking spaces will be maintained where possible.

Why your views matter

The Council are seeking views from the public to help inform the scheme design. A Non-Statutory Public Consultation is being held on the scheme from 15th February to 22nd March 2022. (5 weeks).

What happens next

Further to this Public Consultation, a report will be brought back to the Dundrum Area Committee meeting in April or May 2022.
