National Watersports Campus - Non-Statutory Public Engagement

Overview

Have your say in shaping Ireland’s first purpose built multi-watersport facility

In 2025, the public had the chance to contribute to the development of a new Masterplan for Dún Laoghaire Harbour. One of the projects that formed part of the Masterplan is the National Watersports Campus.

The National Watersports Campus will be a collection of world-class facilities for watersports in Dún Laoghaire Harbour. It will provide upgraded slipways, new buildings for watersports and windsports providers to operate from, specific launching capacity for high performance athletes, redesigned boat maintenance and training facilities and a new events building to accommodate large scale competitions and provide a home for Watersports National Governing Bodies.

The aim of this Campus is to bring the wealth of watersports experiences under one banner, highlighting the huge amount of activity already taking place in Dún Laoghaire Harbour, and helping these sports to flourish and become more accessible for more people to enjoy long into the future.

The proposed designs include:

  • Dedicated watersports and windsports providers’ buildings, with modern, comfortable changing facilities for adults and children, and spaces for briefing, first aid, storage, and more.
  • A purpose-built event slipway to make launching and recovering boats during large-scale competitions easier and faster.
  • Café spaces for customers to sit and enjoy the waterside.
  • A new launching pontoon for high-performance athletes providing them with dedicated water access to improve their skills.
  • A world-class events building, housing Watersports National Governing Bodies year-round and offering jury rooms, media rooms, briefing spaces, event spaces, and medical treatment spaces for competitors and competition organisers.

The Campus is being developed in phases, and initial plans have been created to show how the proposed Campus buildings and slipways will operate. Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is now seeking your feedback on the elements of these plans that matter to you.
