N11 CYCLE IMPROVEMENT SCHEME

Overview

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is currently preparing plans to upgrade four parts of the cycle track on the N11, a primary cycle route in the Greater Dublin Area.

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, Traffic Section, is undertaking a Non-Statutory Public Consultation for the above Scheme in accordance with Section 38 of the Road Traffic Act 1994 and welcomes all submissions and observations.

Scheme Details:

The four parts of the N11 route to be upgraded are as follows:

• Outbound direction, from north of the entrance to Coláiste Eoin to south of the junction with Priory Drive.
• Inbound direction, from south of the junction with old Dublin Road (near Oatland’s College) to north of Trees Road.
• Outbound direction, from Kill Lane junction to opposite Westminster Road junction.
• Inbound direction, from the approach to Westminster Road junction to opposite the junction with Kill Lane.

In line with the requirements of the National Cycle Manual (NCM), the works to be carried out as part of the proposed scheme include the following:

• Development of a continuous 2.0m wide cycle track along the route and the upgrade of pedestrian and cycle facilities at junctions including improved transitions
• Upgrade of an existing pedestrian crossing between Old Dublin Road and Trees Road to become a shared pedestrian/cycle (Toucan) crossing.
• Creation of left turn pockets at appropriate junctions (in line with Section 4.5.3 NCM for busy highly trafficked routes)
• Upgrade of bus stops (in line with Section 5.1 NCM)

Why your views matter

This Scheme will be placed on public display in the offices of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, County Hall, Marine Road, Dún Laoghaire, Co. Dublin from June 1^st  to June 16^th, 2016 and will also be available for viewing on the Council’s website.

Further to this Consultation, a report will be brought back to both the Dún Laoghaire and Dundrum Area Committee Meetings.
