Proposed Road Safety Measures on Glenageary Road Lower

Overview

Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council is proposing to provide a new signalised pedestrian crossing on Lower Glenageary Road between the junctions with Silchester Road and Silchester Park.

The main aim of the scheme is to improve safety for pedestrians accessing both the nearby residential areas and the bus stops on Lower Glenageary Road.

Glenageary Road Lower is a Regional Road (R118) with daily traffic volumes in the order of 9000 vehicles a day. It is also a significant bus route with a  number of services operating along it including the Nos 7, 45A and 111.  The volume of traffic on the road creates difficulty for pedestrians and other vulnerable road users trying to cross the road.

The proposed location is in proximity to nearby residential areas and will facilitate pedestrians in accessing the nearby bus stops.

The pedestrian crossing will include a raised bus friendly ramp which will contribute to a reduction in traffic speeds along this section of road.
