Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council sought comments and observations on a proposed pedestrian and cycle safety improvements on Stillorgan Road near UCD from the Rise to the footbridge midway between the Fosters Avenue junction and Belfield flyover at the pedestrian footbridge. The main of the scheme is to improve facilities for pedestrians and cyclists on approaches to the Fosters Avenue junction and to facilitate the provision a new pedestrian/cycle entrance to UCD. In advance of this, a presentation on the scheme preliminary design was made to the Elected Members in Dún Laoghaire Area Committee on 26th March 2018 and to the Dundrum Area Committee on 4th April 2018.

A total of 54 submissions were received, mainly through the dlr Consultation Hub Online Survey form.

We did

A public consultation report was prepared and a presented to the Elected Members in the Dún Laoghaire Area Committee on 28th May 2018 and in the Dundrum Area Committee on 6th June 2018. The comments and observations were forwarded to the scheme designers for consideration and inclusion in the scheme detailed design.

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, in conjunction with the National Transport Authority, is currently preparing plans to carry out pedestrian and cycle safety improvements on Stillorgan Road near UCD from the Rise to the footbridge midway between the Fosters Avenue junction and Belfield flyover at the pedestrian footbridge.  

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, Traffic & Road Safety Section, is undertaking a Non-Statutory Public Consultation for the above Scheme in accordance with Section 38 of the Road Traffic Act 1994 and welcomes all submissions and observations on the scheme as proposed.

Scheme Details:

In line with the requirements of the National Cycle Manual and the Design Manual for Urban Roads and Streets, the main works to be carried out as part of the proposed pedestrian and cycle scheme include the following:

  • Development of a new pedestrian and cycle entrance for UCD near the Nova building to improve accessibility with a two way cycle route to be provided from the new entrance to the Fosters Avenue junction.
  • Enhanced facilities for cyclists on the city bound side of Stillorgan Road including the provision of 2.0m wide cycle tracks.
  • Upgrade of the Stillorgan Road – Fosters Avenue junction to include a pedestrian/cycle crossing across Stillorgan Road and enhanced facilities.
  • Reconfiguration of the junction of Stillorgan Road – The Rise junction.
  • Modifications to existing bus stops

Why your views matter

The Council are seeking views from the public to help inform the scheme design. This Scheme will be placed on public display in the offices of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, as follows, from April 10th to May 15th, 2018 and will also be available for viewing on the Council’s website.

What happens next

Further to this Public Consultation, a report will be brought back to the Dún Laoghaire and Dundrum Area Committee meetings in June 2018.
