Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council are proposing to temporarily close Queen’s Road, Dún Laoghaire on Saturday 13th June 2015 from 18.30hrs to 21.00hrs in order to facilitate the Sonia 5K. In addition, the following roads will be subject to a rolling closure as the race progresses:- Crofton Road, Clarence Street, George’s Street Lower, George’s Street Upper, Glasthule Road, Sandycove Road, Sandycove Avenue East, Sandycove Avenue North, Sandycove Avenue West, Marine Parade, Newtownsmith, Queens Road.

We did

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council made an order to temporarily close Queen’s Road, Dún Laoghaire. In addition, the following roads were subject to a rolling closure as the race progressed:- Crofton Road, Clarence Street, George’s Street Lower, George’s Street Upper, Glasthule Road, Sandycove Road, Sandycove Avenue East, Sandycove Avenue North, Sandycove Avenue West, Marine Parade, Newtownsmith, Queens Road. A Traffic Management Plan was put in place and diversions were signposted.

Overview

Sonia 5K takes place in Dún Laoghaire on Saturday, June 13th at 7.30pm to mark the 20th Anniversary of Irish athletics icon Sonia O’Sullivan’s historic victory in the 5,000 metres at the IAAF World Championships in Gothenburg in 1995.

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council are proposing to temporarily close Queen’s Road, Dún Laoghaire on Saturday 13th June 2015 from 18.30hrs to 21.00hrs in order to facilitate the Sonia 5K.

In addition, the following roads will be subject to a rolling closure as the race progresses:-

Crofton Road, Clarence Street, George’s Street Lower, George’s Street Upper, Glasthule Road, Sandycove Road, Sandycove Avenue East, Sandycove Avenue North, Sandycove Avenue West, Marine Parade, Newtownsmith, Queens Road.

A Traffic Management Plan will be in place and diversions will be signposted.

Any interested parties may lodge an objection in writing with the Senior Engineer, Traffic Section, Transportation Department, Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, Marine Road, Dún Laoghaire, Co. Dublin.

What happens next

Following the Public Consultation Process, the submission/observations received will be analysed.

Should the Public Consultation for this Temporary Road Closure be sucessful a Temporary Road Closure Order shall be put in place for Saturday 13th June 2015.
