Transportation: Urban Speed Limit Bye-Laws Review 2026

Overview

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is reviewing speed limits in urban areas across the county.

As part of the review, a number of changes to existing speed limits are being proposed. These include introducing 30 km/h speed limit zones at certain schools (listed below) during specified periods and changing speed limits associated with the New Glenamuck District Road Scheme, Glenamuck Road and Kilternan Village.

This review is being carried out in accordance with Section 9 of the Road Traffic Act 2004 (No. 44 of 2004), as amended, the Department of Transport's Guidelines for Setting and Managing Speed Limits in Ireland, and Department of Transport Circular RW21 of 2025 on the implementation of lower speed limits in built-up and urban areas.

The proposed changes aim to improve road safety and support safer travel in urban areas.

All submissions received before the deadline of 12pm on Friday 11 September 2026 will be considered.

Data Notice

When you make a submission, your comments will be included in the Chief Executive's report on this consultation.

The report will be publicly available and presented to County Councillors at a public Council meeting.
