Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council sought comments and observations on a proposed cycle route on Drummartin Link Road and part of Kilgobbin Road. This includes an upgrade to the Drummartin Link Road and Blackthorn Drive junction near the Beacon Hospital and the provision of a cycle route through the Rotary over the M50. The scheme aims to improve facilities for pedestrians and cyclists. In advance of this, a presentation on the scheme preliminary design was made to the Elected Members in the Dundrum Area Committee on December 4th, 2017.

A public consultation report was prepared and a presented to the Elected Members in the Dundrum Area Committee on June 6th 2018 and the comments and observations were forwarded to the scheme designers for consideration and inclusion in the scheme detailed design.

Overview
Dún Laoghaire – Rathdown County Council is currently preparing plans to improve pedestrian and cycle facilities on Drummartin Link Road and part of Kilgobbin Road and is seeking comments and observations from the public to help inform the design of the scheme. This will include an upgrade to the Drummartin Link Road and Blackthorn Drive junction near the Beacon Hospital.
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, Traffic & Road Safety Section, is undertaking a Non-Statutory Public Consultation for the above Scheme in accordance with Section 38 of the Road Traffic Act 1994 and welcomes all submissions and observations on the scheme as proposed.
Scheme Details:
In line with the requirements of the National Cycle Manual and the Design Manual for Urban Roads and Streets, the main works to be carried out as part of the proposed pedestrian and cycle scheme include the following:
- Development of a new two way cycle track on the east side of Drummartin Link Road and on part of the west side of Kilgobbin Road up to Hillcrest Road.
- Upgrade of the Drummartin Link Road and Blackthorn Drive junction near the Beacon Hospital.
- Scheme tie in from Drummartin Link Road to the proposed Bracken Road link road.
- Reconfiguration of the roundabout over the M50 to provide pedestrian and cycle facilities through the roundabout to link to the proposed routes on Drummartin Link Road and Kilgobbin Road.
Why your views matter
The Council are seeking views from the public to help inform the scheme design. This Scheme will be placed on public display in the offices of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, as follows, from April 18th to May 22nd, 2018 and will also be available for viewing on the Council’s website.

What happens next
Further to this Public Consultation, a report will be brought back to the Dún Laoghaire and Dundrum Area Committee meetings in June 2018.
